Why District 10

Opportunity Should Reach the People Who Need It

District 10 is home to families, workers, entrepreneurs, and neighborhoods that have helped shape Jacksonville for generations.

It is also a community where many residents continue to face barriers to career training, healthy food, business resources, and economic opportunity.

The District 10 Initiatives were created to help close those gaps by bringing resources directly into the community and connecting residents with practical pathways to greater stability and economic mobility.

This is more than delivering services.

It is an investment in people, earning power, entrepreneurship, and the long-term strength of District 10.

The Investment

One Investment. Multiple Pathways to Opportunity.

The District 10 Initiatives are supported through a $2 million State of Florida award administered through the Florida Department of Children and Families and implemented by Beaver Street Enterprise Center.

Rather than building a new system from the ground up, BSEC works alongside organizations with the expertise, infrastructure, and community relationships to put resources to work.

Skilled Careers Beyond a Four-Year Degree

A college degree is not the only pathway to a strong career. District 10 residents can access hands-on industrial training designed to prepare participants for skilled employment.

Training includes recognized credentials such as OSHA Forklift Operations, HAZWOPER 40-Hour, OSHA-30, NCCER Construction Trades, and other industry-relevant training. The focus is straightforward: build skills, earn credentials, and create a stronger pathway to employment and increased earning power.

A Career Ladder in Healthcare

Healthcare offers more than a first job. It can provide the beginning of a career ladder.

Through the District 10 Initiatives, eligible residents can access healthcare career training designed to prepare them for employment and continued advancement in the healthcare sector.

Training pathways include Certified Nursing Assistant and related nursing career preparation delivered through state-approved programs combining instruction with practical experience.

Food Access & Nutrition

Fresh Food, Delivered Closer to Home

Healthy communities need reliable access to healthy food.

The District 10 food access initiative brings resources closer to residents through fresh food distributions, mobile market services, community distribution support, and nutrition-focused services.

Through June 2026, 60% of reported food deliveries went to households that included an adult age 60 or older. The goal is not simply to distribute food. It is to strengthen the network connecting District 10 families with nutritious food where they live.

Small Business & Entrepreneurship

Where Small Businesses Get Stronger

Small businesses create more than income. They create jobs, strengthen neighborhoods, build local wealth, and keep economic activity within the community.

For more than two decades, Beaver Street Enterprise Center has worked with entrepreneurs and small businesses to strengthen their capacity to grow.

Through the District 10 Initiatives, entrepreneurs can access business training, technical assistance, coaching, and practical tools designed to strengthen the businesses they are building.

The 158 credentials earned to date represent an estimated $1.2 million in new annual earning power compared with the established baseline used in the analysis.

Through June, 19 District 10 entrepreneurs completed CRM training paired with hands-on technical assistance to help put stronger business systems into operation.

Participants include sole proprietors, small-business owners, and entrepreneurs investing in the businesses they are building.

When local businesses become stronger, the impact can extend beyond one entrepreneur to employees, families, customers, and neighborhoods.
